Default pr44 vs built d44

i was wondering how would a built dana 44 would compare to a pr44, if both were spec'd similar. d44 with 5.13's, arb, rcv shafts, gussets vs pr44 with rcv shafts, 5.13's, arb locker.

for the amount of money it would cost to build up a factory 44, i'd have to wonder why waste the money. no matter how much you build up your factory 44, it will always just be that, a factory 44 with some extras welded onto it. the prorock44 unlimited doesn't need gussets as it comes with much beefier c's and the tubes are massively thick so no sleeves are needed and the diff is made to offer high clearance which the factory can't even begin to address and it even comes pre-built with 6° of positive caster - something you could never have with the factory axle. as far as the inners go, they would be the same.

ok i know the pr def has its benefits, but maybe i should re-phrase, how much more durable (strength wise) would a pr be over a d44 if spec'd the same?

The first thing to consider is the center section. The ProRock 44 is designed for maximum rigidity with extra webbing, a thicker casting and better material. Our ProRock 60 has better ground clearance than the JK 44 and ProRock 44 is sleeker yet.

The standard JK housing with internal sleeves is 35% stronger than stock. With an external clamshell kit the standard housing is 45% stronger than stock. The standard ProRock 44 with 5/16" tube is 113% stronger than the stock housing. The Unlimited version of the ProRock 44 with 1/2" tubes is 182% stronger than stock. The tube picture shown below is our standard 3"x 5/16" tube compared to the factory 2-1/2" x1/4" tube.

The ProRock 44 end forgings (the 'C') are very similar to our Dana 60 version.

Prorocks are my dream axles. A built 44 is too, but just not as nice of a dream. When i bought my Sahara it was always my plan to upgrade both axles. Times changed though, but I'll keep dreaming.

The inner and outer sleeve figures were obtained from the mfgrs of the products.
The tube strength figures came from engineering calculations based on diameter and thickness of like tube.
