Abock33 thanks for the thread I am ordering mine this week. I will not be welding mine in my self because I suck at it. We are talking the ugliest welds in the country perhaps the world. Thank god for friends that are welders!

Any idea if one of these welders would cut it?

harborfreight.com/welding/arc-welders/120-amp-arc-welder-98870.html

It's a Harbor Freight cheapie, but it says it's rated for 3/16".

I'd hate to have to dump hundreds of dollars on a high quality welder that I'd use less than a dozen times if something cheaper than the cost of labor for this task would suffice. Any ideas

I purchased this welder:

hxxp://www.harborfreight.com/welding/mig-flux-welders/90-amp-flux-wire-welder-98871.html

last weekend so that I could chop my MOPAR offroad bumper. You can get an online coupon to get the machine for $89... even comes with Flux Wire.

I had never welded before... practiced a couple of hours and then gave it a shot. Here's what the final product looked like:

Before:

After:

I had a guy inspect the welds when I was done (worked for years as a Welder at a shipyard), and he said it penetrated the 3/16th just fine.

IMHO, I say go for it.
