Prepping the JK for an Excursion
I'll for sure keep everyone updated and post pics and ask questions when I need to during my trip. It won't be for another while, but I'll keep everyone posted. I'll also post a map and my schedule on JK-forum in the next couple weeks or so so everyone can know when I'll be around their hometown and off-road with me.
Check out this link to a guy (Wan) from Korea that did a cross county campin trip on a 50 cc Honda Ruckus scooter...solo.

These posts are great. Some well thought out lists and ideas. In regards to a firearm, absolutely! In the wilderness you are no longer on the top of the food chain. If you have limited experience with guns I would suggest a 12 guage shotgun. Hand guns require targeting skills especially at night. Scatter guns won the west. Carry buckshot, slugs and bird shot. A .22 rifle is also a great idea for hunting small game if necessary. If you choose a hand gun, make sure you carry some snake shot.....Investigate getting a Ham radio. With the absence of cell phone coverage and the limited power of CB's, a Ham, thru the excellent repeater coverage in the U.S. is the best emergency communications tool. I carry a CB, but Ham is my choice. By pre-programming the repeater frequencies applicable to the areas you will be traveling thru into your radio you will always be able to find someone who will help you out. The stories I've heard of Ham radio operators assisting stranded off-roaders are too numerous to mention.....There are 2 excellent dvd's you may be interested in if this is your 1st big trip. "Getting prepared" and "getting unstuck" by Bill Burke. www.bb4wa.com. BB is a nationally recognized trainer and tour operator. These dvd's are great starting points. Only your own experiences will teach you what you need but that's part of the fun of our sport. Good luck.
