Default procomp vs teraflex

just bought a 2011 unlimited sport and 5 -315/70/17 goodyear duratrac all terrains, they just showed up today from discount tire direct. now i need the lift. i ordered a procomp stage 1 from 4wheel parts but it has not came in yet and after reading the forums, i'm thinking teraflex instead? its a mall cruiser and will be towed behind my rv and will be on pavement 99% of the time. looking for a 4" kit and would like to do it right, but don't want to spend over $1500

The higher you go with a lift, the more parts that you need to upgrade. Yes, there are cheap lifts, but they just get you in the door. A few months from now maybe your rear driveshaft fails, so you're replacing that with an upgrade that also requires new rear adjustable control arms. And you never liked the loss of steering feel after the lift, which can be disconcerting, and then you're installing new front lower control arms. And the bump steer is annoying so ....

You drive what you admit is a mall crawler. Why do you think you need a 4" lift? A 2.5" lift can accommodate 35" tires, and that's enough to tackle a lot of trails--and to really kill your gas mileage. When you go much beyond that lift height, things quickly get even more expensive. I suggest that you read through some of the lift threads to get an idea of what folks are doing and what problems they are encountering. Then decide what tires and lift height you want.

I would agree with the above post. Call David at Northridge 4X4. I did this week, he is a wealth of knowledge. He will help you tremendously. I am going with the Teraflex 2.5" coils, adjustable track bar, and lower control arms on the front. Also a 1" spacer on the front to accomodate a bumper and winch. I told him I only wanted to do it once, and that is what he said I needed. I don't do any serious rock crawling, but plenty of sandy off road. I just didn't want all the drivetrain issues with going any higher. Good luck and enjoy that new Jeep!

Just get a Budget Boost if u dont plan to wheel and have heavy bumpers and winch. Anything more is a waste of money on a mall crawler.

echoing what some of the others said, for just 35" tires, 4" of lift is way too much lift and one that you'd want as complete as possible for ON ROAD ride and handling performance. i would cancel your order and get something more like a 2.5" budget boost as that's all you would really need for a mall crawler running 35's. at this height, not much needs to be addressed on your suspension to keep your ON ROAD ride and handling good.

I have the procomp 4" lift. It rides very well on road, once you change the shocks.

I want the 4" for looks, its hard because my daily drive is a ford f350 super duty diesel and it sits up high and then i get in the jeep and it feels like a car. the jeep is going to be towed all over the country behind my rv and i don't want all kinds of suspension problems. on the teraflex 3" would i still need driveshafts and control arms?

U do what u want but 4 inch lifts are for people who wheel and want to run big tires. Ur asking for lots of trouble when u dont need to. Getting a decent 4 inch lift that rides nice on the road for a two door jeep will cost you 2500 bucks. For a four door, your lokking at 2000 bucks because u wont need to mess with ur rear driveshaft. Thats a lot of money for an extra inch when u dont really need it. A BB is cheap as hell and u can even throw on a body lift to get some more. Think of all the chrome u can buy with the savings.

And yes, on a 3 inch teraflex u need DS for two door and control arms if u want it ride nice on road. With a four door, u should be ok with stock DS if u dont off road at all.

The procomp lift is $600 and some nice shocks will cost you from 200-800 bucks. I didn't need driveshafts on my 2 door so all you need is wheels and tires after that. I wheel the hell out of mine and the wife still drives it to work everyday.
