I remember reading a write up on it, and it said it didn't dig in, and I think that the plow actually bent making it ineffective. Smitty used thinner metal to make it cheaper, and in this case if I had a vehicle burried to the frame rails I would want to know that my Pull-Pal could take the weight.

My idea of a pull-pal substitute is a 3-foot length of rebar and a mallet, hammered into the ground at slight angle - nice and cheap, and makes a decent winch anchor provided you're not tooo stuck.

...and you leave something for the next guy to winch on!

I would think you couldn't get that rebar back out of the ground very easily.

With Scouts we put up a monkey (rope) bridge. There are several ways to anchor it, but we like to use old axles sharpened to a point and pounded into the ground. You can use a Hi-Lift to winch the pegs out of the ground of they don't come free with a little pounding and sweating.

Actually, that's my method. Have an old axle from a ??? that has a point on it and a fat end on the other side. I put a chain on a jack (the hi-lift works too) and wrap it around the fat end of the axle to pull it back out. Works great.

I've tried to pull re-bar out of the ground. It's damn near impossible.

I just hope that no re-bar is left sticking 3 inches out of the ground (after a couple of years of weathering) that makes a better tire poker that it does a winch anchor. Just sayin.
