Default Question about ball joints

I had some wobble in my front end. So I went through planmans check list and found bad ball joints on driver side. After replacing them with moog ball joints I had to recenter my steering wheel. I wasn't expecting that to change. Is it normal to have a centered steering wheel with bad ball joints and it get off when you replace them? Or did I do something wrong? The wobbles is gone now. This just has me thinking.
