Default Question on Gears

Hey guys I'm in the process of lifting up my JK a little higher. I want to run 35x12.50's. My question is what gears should I be running. I have an auto with 3:73 gears now. My window sticker says I have Dana 30 front axle and Dana 44 Heavy Duty Rear. I know some of you run 4:88's, 5:13's and 5:38's. Asked a buddy of mine who is big time into drag racing about someone to install them for me and he thought those ratios would work but wasn't sure of which one would be best. I don't plan on doing much off roading maninly a trail, nothing heavy duty. This is my daily driver too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The highest you can go is 5.13. The 5.38 gearset is made for Rubicons only. Since you have an auto, get 5.13s.

X2. The popular consensus of the JK masses is 5.13s with the auto. The 5.13s match the 35's and auto very nicely.

If you want to know why or to adjust the ratio based on your own driving habits, search for a thread titled Gears, Gears, Gears and read Planman's detailed post.

I knew you guys would know what to recommend. Looks like I'll go with the 5:13's. Thanks for the input.

X2, if you have an auto trans and 35s, 5.13s are the only way to go

Default I have 35's and auto

i just had 5.13's installed. If i had to commute on the freeway everyday i wouldn't suggest the 5.13s, i would probably go with the 4.88s. The 5.13s are pretty low, they do great around town but not so good on the freeway. I am averaging around 15mpg.

You guys realize there is a whopping 116 rpm difference between the two, right? 116. That's it. Don't know about anyone else, but I seriously doubt I could tell a difference in that little of an rpm change. (unless maybe it was the last bit that takes you into a power band or something, but it's not...)

Auto, 35's and 5.13's = 2380rpm @ 70mph
I'm boggled that people consider that to be screaming rpm at freeway speeds...

Auto, 35's and 4.10's = 1902rpm @ 70mph
This is definitely lugging the engine, and again, I'm boggled that people could possibly find it acceptable.

(felt like using a new word today. Boggled boggled Boggled!!)

BOGGLED
