Yes, I would have a fuse in the power from the battery to the main power in on the relay(s).
Ok so you said if the lights are 28 volts it will not work at all?

If these lights are anything like the kind of landing lights I used on the Cessnas I flew, I'd not rely on them too much, even if you were able to figure out the wiring. What you've heard about their longevity is correct. The FBO/flight school owner had a standing order for us NOT to use them for daylight landing (Safety), because these were constantly burning out (whether he was right to tell us that or not is another topic). The owner was right tho, they were always burning out and we only used them upon landing. I'm sure this was driving up his maintenance costs.

It's a pretty cool gift, and perhaps you'll find a use for them, but for Jeep lights, I'd suggest a more reliable or additional lighting solution.

If they are 28 volt they will not be very bright and suck huge amps.

I am a pilot, A&P mechanic, I would not recommend these landing lights for off road use. They are bright when operated at correct voltage and it is possible they are 12 volt as they were made in that voltage in smaller sizes for small Gen/Av aircraft but I would think you would do better with your typical 55w to 100w halogen off road lights in a 6/8 inch size.

I definitely wouldn't use them. Just get some off road lights designed for a Jeep
