Default questions about regearing...

I was wondering if I had to buy new carriers to go from a 3.21 gear to about a 4.88 or 5.13. What kind of gears do you guys reccomend for a set of 35" tires on a stock engine 6 speed manual trans. in the 4 door unlimited. All it sees is highway and maybe a wet red dirt road. All I pull is my 14' sluminum boat or a 4 wheeler and trailer. I think the 4.88s would work or maybe even a 4.56 but I wanted someones opinion that has a jeep setup like mine. I want to keep it streetable too with decent mileage.

you will need a new carrier for the front axle only. i have the 4.88's in my 6 speed and that is more than enough for 35's. i would say if you were not going to tow anything to go with the 4.56 gears. 4.88's should be more than enough for towing. 1st gear is worthless for driving anywhere around town. it is way too short. i always start off in 2nd. i cannot imagine what 5.13's would be like with 35's in a 6 speed. some may prefer them... in my opinion i would go with the 4.88's unless you plan on going with bigger tires in the future.
