Default Quick Antenna Mod.

The factory Should Of been Shot in the A#$ for installing a chrome antenna on the JK Jeep!!!!

Antenna Mod.

Sorry no pictures my camera is not working!!!!!

(1.) Measure the height and mark your desiered length
(2.) Take the antenna off the Jeep
(3.) Take a cresent wrench tight it around the antenna near the end of the ball of the antenna. Then take a hammer and hit the cresent wrench until the ball comes off !!! Make sure you hit the ball into a bucket or can are you could lose the ball.
(4.)Cut the antenna off at the height you marked in step one.
(5.) Gind the antenna end alittle so the ball can be pressed back on.
(6.)Take some black electrical heat shrink material place it over the chrome part of the antenna. Using a heat gun shrink the material to the desired fit.
(7.)Take the ball of the antenna a place it on top of the antenna mast.
Place the bottom of the antenna mast on a piece of wood and hammer the ball on to the mast.
(8.)Take a can of flat black paint and paint the antenna ball
(9.)Reinstall the antenna mast to the Jeep!!!!

Not responsibile for damaged antennas or damaged fingers good luck

The antennae isn't chrome, it's stainless steel. The reason they made it that color is because black stands out; But the stainless steel is almost unseen when looking at the jeep. The reason it is that length is because it gets better reception when it is higher than the roofline.

I just took mine off, and I get pretty good reception without it being on. However, I use Sirius about 100% of the time, except when my wife wants the splendid table on NPR.

Why not just spray the whole antenna flat black. I've also seen replacement antenna's at my local car wah. Not sure if it would fit.

The only thing that bothers me more than the stainless steel antenna is the chrome locks on the front doors and hatch. These look like they where designed from 1970. Why couldn't they intergrate it into the handles? If anyone has a mod on how to eliminate the locks (I have the power lock option) or turn them black you'd be my hero.

Rubidozer, I stand corrected the antenna is stainless steel not chrome. IMO I just think that the Antenna look a lot better shorter and black as for the reception it is the same!!!!

The antenna is at that length for a reason. Not because it is over the roofline but because the antenna length is matched to the wave length of the frequency ranges used.

Yes, but we are driving home from church at 12pm, and have been listening to it for 3 years at that time. I'm rarely in my car at 7pm on Sundays. Maybe if I had Sirius-TIVO or something.

Bingo! Also, reduced radio performance will be noticed at the fringes of performance (eg, weak signal reception). In town, you may not notice reduction at all if your stations are local.

I like The Splendid Table, too, but I listen during the week. It's also available as a PodCast (if you're into that kind of thing--just give me a link to an mp3 file and I'm much happier!):
