Dang, beat me to it!! Exactly right. It can be shorter, but only by a multiple of the designed frequency wave length.

The only thing that bothers me more than the stainless steel antenna is the chrome locks on the front doors and hatch. These look like they where designed from 1970. Why couldn't they intergrate it into the handles? If anyone has a mod on how to eliminate the locks (I have the power lock option) or turn them black you'd be my hero.
I don't like the silver colored ( chrome? Stainless?) locks either. I found some smooth caps designed to cover these, look here, but not in the size we need.

This one says jeep wrangler antenna, but I'm not sure if it will work. I love the antenna though.

ditto. tho in truth, u CAN adjust the length of the antenna that sticks out shorter but the length of the WHOLE antenna will be the same cus it'll be coiled up somewehre inside the car instead.

for example, hand held radios have coiled antennas inside. however coiled antennas dont get as good reception

Default No Antenna

After reading this thread, I pulled out my Jeep Wrangler 2007 Dealer brochure to see what the antenna looks like (can't go look at my own antenna because I'm only in BA order status).

Guess what!?! No antenna in ANY of the pictures. Not even a bracket / mount to attach the attenna on the body in any of the Jeep pictures used for marketing and advertising. Not really helpful information, I just thought it was interesting and that I'd point it out. Even if you google image a Jeep - no antenna.

What's even more rediculous is that I have taken the time to do all this! I have done nothing since I ordered my Jeep the other day. I just sit around and wait. It's going to be a long several months.

Any difference with reception?
No problem in the no touch car wash. Reception is normal.

I figure they paint radio towers right?

Nice. I'll be doing that.

Did you need to sand it down or prime to give the paint something to stick to? Or did you spray it as is?
