Quick Gear question
You would want to do them both at the same time I would imagine. If you did just the rear then your front tires would be spinning at a different rate which I assume would cause some problems. But I am not 100% sure on this.......
If you change one and the other they will be spinning at different speeds, so you see the issue. If you change the rear and pull the ring gear on the front you could drive it till you can afford the front, but that is usually a fix for a bad situation. So I would say keep saving till you can do both at the same time. Hope this helps, and Good luck with your regear.
Let's say you use your Jeep as a DD and only have time or money to do one end at a time. This would be fine as long as you never put the transfer case in 4WD until you have done both ends.
Putting the T-case into 4WD with different ratios would bind up the drive train and probably cause some serious damage.
If I had to run with different ratios for a few days or weeks, I'd tie that T-case lever down in 2WD with a piece of rope or something.
The only exception might be some kind of emergency in mud or snow where things are slippery enough to keep the drivetrain from binding. Even then one end of your rig would be trying to go faster than the other.
