Default Random chime sound?

I've been getting this random chime sound when driving lately. It sounds something like the ESP or ABS is disengaging, but nothing lights up on the dash like it normally would if either of those fail(or you turn ESP off).

Has anyone experienced this?

This "phantom chime" didn't occur until at least 6 months after I installed my 3" lift and 35s. I've retuned using Superchips and corrected for the tire size, but also checked for DTC codes... there aren't any. Does anyone have any insight into this? Thanks.

Do a search for "mystery ding".
Lots of theories, no real answers.

Thanks guys. Well at the very least it's nice to know this is "common" enough that others know what I'm talking about.

Not to insult anyone but check your oil. My buddy had this a few times and asked me to drive his Jeep to see if I could figure it out. It would only happen quickly with braking and turning. No lights illuminated initially. We did eventually catch the oil light flicker quickly. The low level alarm/ding would be reached with oil movement in the base pan and trigger the ding. If you have the same oil consuming engine that most of us have this would be worth a look. I don't want to assume that you are not checking your oil level with each fuel fill up...but just one other thing that I have seen.

Another thought is to also check your battery. The batteries that came from the factory have a tendency to die early and with that comes all kinds of goofy things happening...lights, radio geeking, chimes, etc...

Did you get the J30 recall flash (Hot Oil warning for auto transmissions)?

If not, some of the mystery dings were suspected to be related to overheating auto transmissions.

Just a thought.....

There is no oil level monitor.

If the warning sounds related to oil, it's because the oil pressure has dropped to nearly ZERO.

I guess you could call it an oil level warning, but it's kind of late when it sounds because there is not enough oil in the pan to keep the pressure up.

I got the Hot Oil recall serviced by dealership when it was released. I check my oil frequently and my battery is a new Yellowtop. It's definitely a mystery.

i see that you have an 08. on 07-08 JK's, a mystery ding usually means that your transmission is running hot. 09-up JK's would spell out as much across your odometer.
