Thanks WOL, I think you nailed it. I have Aeroforce Interceptor gauges installed and while keeping an eye on the transmission temp, the ding occurred when it hit 180. I peaked around 205. What is the normal temp operating range for the 3.8L V6 auto?
I guess I may possibly need to install a trans cooler? Any recommendations?

Like I said, lots of theories, no real answers. I get the mystery ding when my transmission temp is below 120°F.

Hmmm you got a point there. Driving from work the ding went on but my trans temp read 105.

Yea OK answer me this. If it is related to hot oil in the auto transmission then why does it to it in my 08 manual? (I already had my clock spring replaced so that's not it either)

When I get the ding, I do not get a single "idiot" light on the cluster either. I also scanned it with the Superchips and zero error codes as well.

I think it a glitch in the ECU.

I have an 09 and get mystery dings once in a while. No lights...nothing! I've had the factory correction for hot transmission oil. My rig usually dings when jus cruising on the freeway. Like many noises on the jeep, I just ignore them.

All great thoughts on this conundrum. I guess we tend to forget computers can and will act a little wonky.

For cheap insurance, I'm going to install a trans cooler anyways (as noticed today I'm running fairly hot between 180-205 just from city driving)... and I'll be sure to report my "DING!" situation after the install.

Had it happen with my 08 and never did figure out what it was. No issues yet with my 11.
