Default RCV axle boot

I would love to eventually get these axles, but really dont want to grind on my balljoint. It seems you could trim that boot instead? What do you all think.

the boots are designed to hold the grease inside at extreme rotational velocities. if you were to compromise the strength of the boot, you really would be asking for trouble.

Ryan do you have Prosteers?

If you do the grinding on them is so small and has no effect on the balljoint.

If you dont have prosteers no grinding required.

What David said: I took off maybe 1/32 off the top of my prosteers in a "U" shape. I probably didn't even need to as it didn't look like they would touch but I took it back apart and did it anyway for insurance.

Realistically, how much clearance do you need? My Cs are gussetted, so hopefully that translates into less movement.

We've had ZERO issues with RCVs, ProSteers and ProRock 44 housings. With factory housings, it's a different story. We've had customers with factory housings that found, after a quick measurement of the gap between the factory ball joint and stock Rubi u-joint, the 'C's so badly bent, even with gussets (bent before install?) that ProSteers would interfere with the RCVs. Fortunately, these customers found the bent 'C' before they purchased ball joints or shafts.

Default Clearance

When I talked to the RCV guy he told me the Prorock C's are very stout. 1 thickness of a paper match pack would be good, 2 would be better. I wouldn't think twice about this combo, it costs money initially but is smooth and trouble free. Throw some Reid Racing high steer knuckles at it while you're spending.

Does anyone have a measurement to determine clearance(ie, determine if C is bent) that I can take before I purchase the rcvs?

man u would have to measure a brand new axle c, 20 of us could measure ours now and give back 20 different measurements.

do you have the prosteer ball joints? if not, then i would not worry about the issue. i gusseted mine after nearly 3 years of offroading, so who knows if mine were bent, but i do have the rcv's installed. along with new stock ball joints. if u would like, i will measure what my clearance is, i dont seem to have any issues.

i think it was dave mentioned. you would not want to cut into the boot for the rcv, that would compromise it. the boot holds all the grease in and on extreme turns, the edge of the boot comes close to the edge of the inside of the metal
