Default re-gear 101?

is there a 101 somewhere on this forum?

i'm running 3.73 on 285/75/16s.. 44s in back 30s in front with the 24s pkg.
it's my DD..i go off roading half dozen times a year..

1--do i need to re-gear if i'm not gonna go bigger then 33s?
2--if i do wanna re-gear do you just need to replace the back?
3--should i do re-gear & lockers all at once?
4--when i talk to a shop about regearing, what questions should i ask them?
5--does re-gearing help with DD? or is it an off road thing?

thanks
steve

Browse this one also. It's a DIY re-gearing write-up from a forum member with lots of great info.

1- you don't need to re-gear, but you'll most certainly want to
2- you'll need to do front and rear if you ever want to use 4 wheel drive again
3- to save money sure...but you could always install lockers on your own later if your handy with a wrench, and can get the carrier bearings pulled and pressed
4- ask them for a discount
5- if your getting bigger tires then absolutely for DD or offroad

oh, and be advised that the chart in my write up is only meant to provide a generalized idea regarding gear ratio to tire size with outcome. There has been a better more accurate table on the forum somewhere, search it out.
