Default re-wrap steering wheel is it possible?

My stock steering wheel is getting awfully worn out and am wondering if anyone has re-wraped the wheel in new leather. I have the leather that matches my new seats so figured this would be a good way to use some of it. Any help would be appreciated.

Some upholstery shop can do it but not all. You would need to call around.

I would contact Redline Goods - they may be able to help you out.

Leather steering wheel covers - RedlineGoods leather shift boots

I went through this with a TJ wheel a few years ago, and there aren't that many places that will do steering wheels. Not one local upholstery shop I called would touch it. The few quotes that I got from places I found online were in the $300 range, including the leather and additional padding.

a good INEXPENSIVE solution my be a new cover from wheel skins.

most manufactures arent really using leather to wrap the steering wheels (rahter theyre using leather LIKE material & the color or finish flakes after time).

ive used wheel skins, GENUINE/REAL leather on my other vehicles...theyre "stitched" closed using wax twine....the finished results is always very nice and its not a difficult task to complete.

You could buy a used one (with much more life) from a salvage yard or from someone who swapped theirs early-on, if you're comfortable pulling the wheel yourself.

Otherwise, I'd look into what an upholstery shop can do. They should be able to cut you a new piece of leather, sew it up, and stretch it around the wheel. Might be a good opportunity to change the type of material for something more durable, thicker, or different texture.

Beyond that...there's a couple things that absolutely destroy steering wheels: Sweat and dirt/grease from your hands, "palming" the wheel versus gripping, and natural sunlight/heat. Go easy on the new one

I agree. I've put on a few Wheelskins covers before, and they aren't that bad. The Redline "DIY" cover doesn't look like much fun to me.

The reason I suggested Redline is that they will actually recover a wheel for you, if you aren't interested in doing it yourself.
