Default Ready for a CHANGE!

Hi Y'all,

I wasn't quite sure if this is the right place to post, but what can I say I'm a NOOB!

I'm getting ready to put a 3" inch teraflex lift (?), 35s, and re-gearing (4.88 or 5.13?).

Oh and a steering stabilizer. Is there anything I'm missing when I do this or anything I should be aware of? Any advice will help and so far you guys have been AWESOME!!!

Also, I think I should be able to resell the stock parts and tires....

You may want to sleeves your front axel when you do the gears. Depending on the lift and your back spacing on you wheel, you may need spacers. Depending on the lift, you may need driveshafts.

What components are coming with the lift? If it is just coils and a steering stabilizer, then yes, you will want to start adding stuff...

For the gears, open the Drivetrain FAQ's and plug some numbers in. For manuals and 35's, 4.88s are popular. 5.13's will be a bit better offroad, but the freeway rpm's will be a bit higher. It'll be a personal preference on your part which way to go.

Start saving $$ for a drive shaft. Some JK's, with lifts 3 inches are more, wear out the CV boot on the stock shaft. Its one of those things where there ARE people out there with stock one and there ARE some people whose went out right away. They about 500 bucks. I wouldnt replace it right away, might as well get your $'s worth on your stock one.

Rear tire carrier for 35", front adjustable track bar and adjustable control arms (if kit don't include, not necessarily needed). Front axle 'C' gussets, new wider rims with proper back spacing/wheel spacers, extended brake lines(maybe), something to recalibrate speedometer and odometer(not necessary), front drive shafts if its a 2 door automatic, gears (not necessary but would be nice specially if it's 3.21's). But this of course depends on how driveable you want it and if it's going to leave the pavement.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. Here is the info of what I'm getting.

This is the lift kit I am looking into:

Tera Flex 3" Suspension System w/ 4 FlexArms

Details

This system includes a 3” lift kit, shocks, front lower FlexArms and rear upper FlexArms, front swaybar disconnects, rear swaybar links, rear trackbar bracket, bumpstops and all necessary hardware. This kit will allow you to run up to a 35” tire (aftermarket wheels with 4.5” backspacing or less are required). Fits all JK Wranglers including Rubicon and Unlimited. Will provide an average of 4” of lift on 2 door JK models.

Wheels:

18X9 KMC XD Series Addict either with 18 mm or 12 mm offset

I was also thinking about adding a steering stabilizer.

If you are doing 18x9 wheels you will need a -12mm offset if you are putting on the 3 inch lift kit. The -12mm offset is a 4.5 inch back spacing. Any thing less than that you have a chance of it rubbing.

Sounds good! 12mm offset will be the one.

Unless yours is broken, save your money. An adjustable front trackbar(to center your axle) would be a good start. You shouldn't have to worry about driveshafts with a 6 speed unlimited(at least not for awhile).

Edit: Also, 4.88's will work great with 35's and a 6 speed, but if's there's a decent chance you'll move up to 37's, give a good look at the 5.13's. It really depends on how much you travel on the interstate. If you consistently run 70-80, 5.13's might be a bit steep even with 37's.

I put a 3.25" lift on my JK 20k miles ago. No adjustable track bars or any adjustable anything. Have not needed a driveshaft either. The one thing I did need was a tire carrier because the tire was destroying my tailgate.

Lift and tires, you will be good to go.
