Default Is the rear bumper hollow?

Is this area of the bumper hollow? I thought about drilling a hole to add cup holders if that bump out area is hollow.

You can't do it there, but you can do it on the sides right behind the tires.

They are totally hollow and it weighs about 5 pounds when off.

Pretty much. There are a couple places with metal that bolt to the bumper. For some reason I thought one of the tie-in's was close to the area he's referring to.

I'm impressed with EzK's job. I had mine behind my flares back when I had the stocker on.

It's extremely tight to the frame rail and requires cutting on the inside. I'd highly recommend taking the bumper off if trying to squeeze them on the back. And do some measuring.

Behind the flares like yours is probably better anyway since its all clear of the tailgate. When I put mine in I searched to see if I was being original and I think someone linked me to a pic of your job.. Stole my thunder!

He got the idea from the Chevrolet Avalanche forums.

I did discover that with having them, you could forget a beverage back there for awhile since you can't see it while driving. Nothing like pulling a warm coke out of your bumper at the next gas station.
