Regear.
Yep another regear question. I have the 3.21 gear ratio and wanna go 35's. the price is over the top and I don't think i coul get new tires and regear. so will I need to regear with 33's? thanks!
If you want to go with 35s, you will be disappointed with spending all the dough on 33s, just to make your gear ration work out better. If you have limited funds, go ahead and get the 35s, then start saving your pennies for the regear, because you will need it. Just my
ya but the thing with that is there is a lot I would want to do if I went 35's just so im safe. I would want to regear, do c-gussets and sleeves, and a swing away tire carrier so im not worried about my already saggy tailgate. do 33 is my option now since I am paying for it off a high school kid budget. but after the 33's I'm moving straight to 35's or 37's!
keep saving and do it right the first time - you'll be much happier and less broke - both $$$ and Jeep repairs.
you'll want - need to regear if you go 35's.
I have 35's and 4.10's while useful in 3rd, sometimes OD - getting regeared next week.
can't imagine how bad it woudl suck with 3.21's- you would have your foot in the gas all the time to get them moving

3.21s on an automatic with 33's is going to be a miserable combo. I say pick up a set of rubi take offs for now, and save up until you can get 35's, gussets, sleeves and a regear all at once. You will really regret wasting money on 33's if your heart desires 35's.

Stock Rubicon 32s are about as tall as many 33s. You should be able to find a set of take-off Rubicon tires and wheels for around $500-$600--for both the tires and wheels.
In fact, since you live in the Salt Lake City area, there are tons of take-off and used JK parts for cheap.
Instead of regearing and adding lockers, be patient and find a pair of Rubicon axles that have already been regeared. Then sell yours to offset the cost. Although Teraflex charges somewhere close to $1000-$1200 to regear when they run a special--parts and labor.
You should have no problem finding used 35s, used bumpers, etc. in your area for 1/2 the cost of new--or even less.
Contact Joe (Teraflex) from the forum. Drive over to the Teraflex store in Murray and introduce yourself to him sometime. Let him know what you are looking for in used parts. He hosts a JK get together at least a couple times a year.
Without lockers, your stock axles will be fine with 35s unless you really beat your rig offroad.
You can run 35s with a 2.5" lift that includes extended front and rear bumpstops. A 35 on your stock carrier is fine for a while. If you go wheeling or drive rougher roads, you can take it off and throw it in the back (with the rear seat removed) if you want to be easier on your stock tire carrier.

In regards to you build plan, don't settle just to get something on. If you can find some cheap used stuff to make due for the time being, do it that way, and save for what you truly want and do it right the first time. I was going to rush it, on a limited college budget, but when I decided what I wanted, I realized waiting and saving was the way to go. Two years of saving and planning and I built the rig I wanted.
