Default Regear front and rear diffs?

I am going to install a 4.88 ring and pinion gear in my rear diff on my brand new 08 Unlimited X that has an open rear with the stock 3.21 gears.

Do I need to regear the front diff as well? Do I need to change the carrier?

Thanks. I'm a newbie to Jeeps.

Only if you like your transfer case... Yes, you must do both ends or the results will be a disaster.

Why would it be a disaster if he did one end at a time?

You can do one axle at a time, but if you have different gears in each end, just do not ever put it in 4wd.

I know guys who have had to do things a bit at a time and could nto hold on to money, so when they had it, they got one step at a time done.

unless you remove the front DS, your gears are still going to be spinning,,,
