Default Removing crush cans

Just took off the massive front plastic bumper on the front of my JK while installing factory tow hooks. It actually looks kinda like a Jeep front end without the air damn and chunk of plastic on front.

I'm wondering if there's any reason I shouldn't just cut off the crush cans on the front and weld round flat stock into the place. Any opinions?

They are suppose to protect you from a slow frontal crash. From what others say, the jury is still out as to how effective they are.

Just heard from a Chrysler proving grounds employee on another board. The crush cans ensure that the airbags don't go off at an impact less than 15mph and provide some protection of the motor mounts in the event of a front impact. Don't want my airbags going off at a 5mph impact so I guess I'll either work around them or turn off the airbags (if possible). Never had a Jeep with airbags before........
