Default Replacement driveshafts... a must?

'08 Rubicon Unlimited

I'm looking at going with FT's 4" LA kit... I was wondering if I could squeak by without replacing driveshafts for a while if I adjust everything right. I'm at the point where I can either do the FT lift (which is what I want) and an accupro and shocks... or drop down to a Superlift 4" + Driveshafts + accupro + shocks... I just kinda hate putting 570 bucks into something that I don't plan on keeping forever. I suppose I can always just drop back and save my pennies a bit longer and do it all in one... but I'm kinda tired of my Jeep looking so small.

For the record, I usually plan better than this... but my hard top started leaking (an '08... I thought this was fixed?) and while I'm going to try to get the dealer to just give me a new one, I also decided I don't want to deal with this continually, so I ordered Wild Boar's fastback one-piece hard-top thing... which was ... well, not cheap. Anyway, this cut severely into the lift budget.

I'm not even sure if this is a question that can be answered 'till people get out there and wheel the FT LA lift... but figure if it's just a matter of adjusting control arms... it might be a more general question. Regardless, I appreciate any insight.

It sounds like with that much lift and flex, you will rub with an auto. There is another thread recently about this. Looks like a smaller diameter front drive shaft, and notching the tranny skid are the fix, but some of the guys that really wheel are not switching shafts with success. I plan on lifting, and hoping for the best, buying a new drive line when I break one.

Same here, 4in SL in the mail, probably gonna see what I can get out of the stock shafts. If they last three months that'll be enough for me . I plan on having new shafts, gears , adjustable uppers and lowers by summer.

I have a 3" lift. I still have the stock shafts. I will wait until I breakone. Having said that, the front clamp hits the auto transmission and rips the boot off. I dont mind that but the lip where it hits gets screwed up. I would just take the clamp off from the get go and just let the boot float there.

I have the Full Traction 3" Ultimate. I recently switched out my front springs to the HD springs. I also added a 3/4" spacer to the top of the springs. This was a few weeks ago. In the last few days I noticed a new vibration from the front end. I got under it last night and it looks like my front drive shaft @ the rear is spitting grease everywhere. I'm guessing I have too much lift for it now in the front. Time for a new front drive shaft (Which I needed anyways becuase at full flex it rubs the side of the Auto tranney)

I had the clamp rip the boot last summer. The dealer I take it to for service (bought it from a different dealer) replaced the entire shaft (LRU). They also removed the clamp and notch the tranny. All under warranty. Yes I had the lift on it.

Heh, I literally just ordered it Friday night... so it won't even process 'till Monday I'm sure. Regardless, I can assure you pics will be posted when it arrives.

And I guess I agree on the "sitting on a time bomb" thing... Murphy's law hangs around with me too often as it is... I'll prolly just save my pennies and do it all right when I have the cash. I'm normally pretty good about patience... but buying a Jeep has tested that. It's so hard to wait for goodies...
