Replacement driveshafts... a must?
So lots of what I've been reading indicates that the diameter of the front driveshaft is a problem with the auto transmission... Will a 1350 CV give me trouble with this as well?
Just this weekend my nephew called to tell me his drive shaft had let go. He was out on the highway just outside of Moab. It was snowing, he had no tools, and really did not know what to do. Monday morning we headed down there to get it off of the highway before it got impounded. We removed the rear DS and headed back to Salt Lake 3 Hrs . When we hit Price, Utah they informed us that the highway was shut down with snow. waited several hours. Ended up having to get a hotel room for the night. Only rooms left were suites. $159.00
Is it worth the wait to get it replaced? If you have a 2 dr with 3 inches of lift you should just add it to cost of the lift... unless you like the thoughts of the unknown...snowing, dark highway, towing, impound, or if your wife is involved new drivelines are cheaper than a divource.

Does your nephew have a 2dr or 4dr?
So how important is it to replace the front driveshaft? i just installed 4" superlift on my jeep over the weekend and by the way its awesome i love it. but i definately have plans to replace the driveshafts in the future and adjustable control arms to set the pinion angle. my question is can i get away without replacing the front and just do the rear because its doent look like a very healthy angle especially being a 2 door.
I have a 4 door and 4" lift. When I had it at AEV, I asked them if I needed new drivelines and they told me no. I also asked them if it would be good to replace them down the road... they told me I would be fine.
I have a 3" lift. I still have the stock shafts. I will wait until I breakone. Having said that, the front clamp hits the auto transmission and rips the boot off. I dont mind that but the lip where it hits gets screwed up. I would just take the clamp off from the get go and just let the boot float there.
THis happened to me too. I fought the dealer until they replaced it under warranty with a 08' shaft. The Clamp on the 08' shaft is flat, and so far has not hit my tranny. I think the change in clamps (And part number) by Jeep is what won me the battle to have it replaced.
I have every intention to swap out at least my rear driveshaft just to be safe. The stock shafts just weren't designed to run at that increased angle. I suppose that if you have a strictly street cruiser that's one thing but any kind of off roading will place stress on the driveline and I can tell you that from past experience a driveshaft coming apart can cause an enormous amount of damage. When in doubt, change em out! IMHO

you do know those can end up costing more than the parts you know you should have replaced.
