Default Replacing the brakes... stock or performance

Hi Guys
I have been advised that I need to replace the rear brake pads and rotors. i am wondering if there is something out there better then the stock replacement parts? I don’t know too much in braking especially for off road purposes. Can I get a push in the right direction
Also even though my front brakes seem to still be good should I replace all 4 at once or does not matter?
thanks

There's always something better than stock! However, I find that in our case the stock setup is more than adequate (for my purposes anyway). The JK isn't exactly what I'd call a 'high performance' vehicle and the stock discs are just fine for what we mostly do. Besides, you shouldn't replace just the rear rotors with drilled/slotted ones. You'd have to do a whole brake kit and that ain't cheap.....and like I said, frankly not worth the expense when there's plenty of other cool stuff you can get for the grand or so you're gonna blow.

Just my two cents.

I always used to replace stock brake pads with performance ones on my other cars. I haven't needed to yet on my Jeep. I think I read somewhere that there arent many aftermarket upgrades for our brakes yet. I always liked the Hawk HPS pads. Stock replacement rotors are fine, no need to upgrade those, as far as I know. Aftermarket upgraded brake pads are still a lot cheaper than stock replacements from the dealer, too.

The only thing I have seen for the JK is EBC brake pads and some Wagner brake pads. They may do slightly better than stock ones. The EBC makes some heavy duty "SUV" pads.

Why would your rear pads need replacing and not the front? The front wears twice as fast as the rear, or at least that's the case on every vehicle I've owned so far.

Maybe Imkman does alot of smoke shows/brake stands

If he does this.....http://s42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...okeShow009.flv the rear pads will wear out faster than the fronts....

All seriously though, I would love to change to performance brakes once the stock ones wear out. I really noticed a decrease in stopping power when I increased the tire size. Not to sure what is available though.

I have not checked for the JK but all of my other vehicles get a brake pad named Performance Friction. We used them on Ambulances and other emergency vehicles and got almost 5 times the life over OE parts.

I've been bugging the guy's over at power slot for the last couple of months, and yesterday I got an email from them that said "they will have rotors and pads for the JK mid next year".
Don't know why it's taking so long.
