resetting TPMS
I worked for jeep for years and all you should have to do is drive for about 3-5 miles. That should relearn as if you added air. I have never heard of reflashing for tpms. To tell if they are installed you should have silver metal and or composite valve stem caps.NOT BLACK CAPS.

Valve stems and caps are silver metal.

-ACTIVATES AND DECODES ALL CURRENT AND FUTURE SENSORS
-Large and readable LCD display.
-Depending on what the sensor sends, the VT55 will display sensor ID, pressure, battery state, temperature and accelerometer information.
-Simply select the car maker in the menu and the VT55 will find the sensor from all the sensors used by that car maker on all its models.
-The VT55 remains always up to date thanks to its built-in internet synchronisation software.
-The VT55 can also test a RF Remote Keyless Entry system.
-Rugged design, lightweight and small size.
I installed my new wheels and tires a week ago. I bought 5 new sensors for the new wheels from the Jeep dealer. Put them on and the light came on. Checked psi and they were at 25. Aired up to 35 and no light for 300 miles so far. So I dont believe you have to do anything to the computer. I plane to use my stock wheels for the winter. So it will be nice to not have to get them flashed each fall/spring.
had to dig this post out..
I had new wheels along with new sensors installed, the lights came on after 10miles drive
now 4 dings when I start it up.. how did you guys make that light and dings go away?? they are very annoying...

Just use your old ones...Thats what I did and they worked perfect.
As far as resetting after installing new ones as a last resort before going to the dealership try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then see if that causes it to check for new reading. The factory sensors in mine ding unless I have 35psi so try putting more air in and see if yours have a hig setting???

I put aftermarket sensors in all five of my new wheels and tires. I stepped down from the Sahara 18 inchers to 17 inch Eagle Alloys wheels and stock Rubi BFG KMs. Almost 2k miles on them now and the TPMS alarm hasn't lit up yet.
Don't think that's true. I've run without my spare and with the spare low on pressure and no warnings.
I also notice it takes several revolutions of the tire before the light goes on (when airing down) or goes out (when airing back up). I've read where the TPMS doesn't really turn on until movement is detected. The TPMS has a battery and it needs to be off as long as possible to conserve power and prolong the battery's life. That's why the spare really doesn't matter until it's mounted and run.
By the way - the TPMS battery life expectancy is about 7 years, so I'm sure around 2014 we'll be seeing a ton of posts about the TPMS dying!
