Question rim backspacing question.

now i have FTU 3" HD. 15x8, 3.75BS rims and 35x13.50 tires. i have a little rub at full turn.

what BS would i need to push the tire out far enough to clear the arms?

what effect on the BS would there be if the 8" were a 10"?

You have 3.75 BS and still have rubbing? Hmmm, with a 12.50 width tire you apparently only need 4.5 BS to avoid rubbing. I'd think you would have been okay with your setup.

Anyways, No a different width wheel will have no impact on this problem. The backspacing measurement is taken from the edge of your rim to the inside of the center plate. Even if your rim was 10 feet wide. If your mounting plate is 3.75 inches from the edge and your hub is 10 inches away from your frame. That means your inside edge of your rim is still only 6.25 inches away from your frame. Does that make any sense at all?

i thought i would have been fine as well. the place that installed them said they thought it would rub more than it did... so im all kinds of confused.

I am with ya on the spacers. I have never liked idea of having spacers. I would get dif rims if you have a bad rub but I havn't seen many with less thatn 3.5" backspace.

If the rub is under compression, that's normal...as the tires stuff up to the same point with or with out a lift, and on turns, most people slow, which makes the nose go down...(Compression, etc...)

If its just level turns that it rubs on, it could be the turn stop bolts just need a washer or two to solve the problem.

And yeah - the BS is not related to the rim width.

Depending upon the exact scenario, as the less BS, the larger the arc the tire swings through...you MIGHT even rub on turns from TOO LITTLE BS...as in your arc got too wide, etc.

I'd have to see it in action. or have to describe in detail under what circumstances the rub occurs, etc.

yeah, it isnt bad, just annoying. i think just a small bit of the wheel nubbins hit the arm.

FTU with the adjustable trackbar.

ill see about adding a washer to the steer stops, hopefully one will do the trick.
