RIPPS SDS kit is a standalone kit, everything is built into their software/electronics....when the Stock PCM detects knock, the STOCK PCM controls all of that. And the SDS kit is setup on the safe side. So technically there is more on the table for more extreme power but at the price of hurting the motor. So they did theirs so as to protect the motor.

I will let the RIPP guys talk about it, but I did ask that question of Perry and Ross. And when they smiled and said it was covered..since their system does not interfere with the factory PCM rather it communicates with it etc....

When a bolt is torqued it is put in tension and the part it is clamping is put into compression. A torqued bolt does elongate when additional forces are placed on them, but so long as they operate within their elastic range they are fine.

The stress you describe on connecting rod bolts does not make sense. You only increase tension by increasing RPM's & I don't think a blower would do that right? That's not where I would be concerned.

Now head bolts are a different animal. If you increase the pressure in the combustion chamber (which I assume a charger would do?) the bolts would cycle closer to their yield strength, which would ultimately decrease the expected life of the bolt. This is the effect of fatigue in designing with metal. However, since I don't know any of the specs on the bolts or how much a charger increases the stress in the metal, I can't determine if there would be any measurable effect on the expected life of the bolt.

In real-world terms, how do those rice-burners perform with blowers? They've been putting bolt-on chargers on those little Honda's for years. I've got to think the 3.8L is a lot closer to those engines than it is to a 350.
Thtas an excellent description of bolt…. Lingo, thank you for that. From our perspective the bolts “look” meaty and not like a cheapo thin little thing. However we will be working on a power program later this year and most if not all of the engines material will be going to respective manufactures for testing and or replacement for bigger power cars. We have it on good authority that the bolts can handle what we’ve thrown at them and then some.

Correct… so your stock ECU will adjust for the climate and we simply add to it.

We have several Supercharger kits installed on Mitsubishis in AZ… they have never reported heating issues. However we know that JK’s sent to Dubai have Clutched fans for added cooling….We have a pre-production kit going to AZ next week… reports shortly there after.

Thanks Ripp. ...and let me know too when one of your Jeeps might be in Georgia. I'd love to go drive one. If I decide to put a blower on, yours will likely be the one.
No problem at all… keeps us on our toes… thank you for the discussion. If any head your way you’ll be the first to know, in fact as soon as we get past this last little hurdle I’ll make a list of kits and there respective locations.

Default Ripp Super Charger

I'm thinking about one of your kits.

I have several Mods already, can i use any of these with your kit or will i have to go back to Stock? I'm in Denver Colorado.

Volant Air Inducton
Banks Torque Tubes
Banks Cat Back
Hypertech Programer
Air Aid Spacer

Thanks

Hey RIPP excellent info. I love a manufacturer that is willing to spend the time to answer as many questions it's customers may have. Here's mine. Have you done any deep water crossing tests? By deep I mean the same depth that Jeep says a stock Jk can do. I've read all the pages on the install on your site and it seems that where you put the inlet (pointing down) that this may pose a problem. I know a snorkle is available to be used with the SC but I would like to be able to cross rivers without a snorkle at the same depth I do now with a stock Jk.

I was wondering the same thing. I've been thru 30" of water with no problems and have thought about an AEV snorkle. Is a snorkle available for the SC or can it be made to interface with the AEV?

I am connecting the Ripp SC to my River Raider snorkel. As it sits now, the air filter sits in the stock battery location. I don't see it working with any other snorkel systems than the River Raider. Ripp designed their system to be able to work with the River Raider snorkel. Ripp has developed an air box that is water tight and allows you to connect to the snorkel. With the Ripp SC, the battery is relocated to where the stock air box is. I am really enjoying the supercharger. My jeep is crazy fast now and so much more enjoyable to drive.

Out of curiousity what gears and trans do you have?

"Crazy fast" is certainly something I've never heard said about a JK before. I wish there were a way to quantify it a little better. Is there something else you could compare it to. It certainly sounds like you are happy with it.
