Default Rock Krawler Lube Question

Just installed a set of RK front LCA's. Noticed there are no zerk fittings; are these pre-lubed from factory? Instructions only mention 3-in-1 oil or WD40

I had the same question so I called RK and spoke with one of the fab guys. He told me that the new ones are pre oiled and I should NEVER have to oil them. Hope this helps.

I give mine a shot of WD-40 every now and then. They seem to be holding up great. No squeeks.

Rock Krawler Catalog

"For Gen III Krawler Joints, which is what we are now using, they are service free for years! They come with a grease grooves on the inside of the joint. When you feel they need to be serviced, back out the set screw holding the threaded retainer in, remove the threaded retainer, remove the ball and the poly race ways, then do a clean and inspect. If the race ways are good, then refill the grease groove with a high quality marine grade grease, put the far side race way back in, slide the ball in, put the near side race way in, apply some red loctite to the threaded retainer and tighten it all the way down, then tighten the set screw that holds the threaded retainer in. "

But, yeah, a squirt of WD to clean 'em up would be a good idea.

I have the same LCA's an was wonder that myself so if a joints fails due to the lack of grease or lube will it still be covered under there warranty? I've only put about 4000 miles on mine an haven't had a problem yet

Maybe RK can chime in on this matter!

The newer units with the small set screw off to the side and only 1 thread in retainer are greased from here and sealed. They should not have to be serviced from 3 to 5 years.

The older units with the socket head cap screw in the center of the joint and 2 thread in retainers (1 on each side) get 3 in 1 oil once and a while. Say every 3 to 5 k miles.

It absolutely never hurts to spray MPL or WD40 on the exterior of the joints no matter what style you have.

The new ones we feel are simply the evolution of maintence free joints.

Hope that helps.

RK
