Default Rock Slide power steps

I am looking at the Rock Slide Power Steps. The wife is bugging me to put steps on the 17 Rubi Unlimited. Lifted 2.5" on 35's. I like the Amp Research retractable steps but they offer no protection when wheeling. I don't go a lot, but I don't want to have to remove them when I do. The Rock Slides seem to have updated the motor so it is pretty quite and the rails seem to offer pretty good protection. Does the clunking when it retracts bother anyone? I would like some feedback on this as they are expensive and I don't want to regret buying them. Also, how is the install? Thanks!

If you stay out of the rocks they will do fine just don't think they will hold up like real sliders.

I have seen some decent video of them handling some decent rocks. What about performance as a power step?

They work fine for a elect step but they will not hold up to rock crawling.

I was in Moab with the rock slide engineering people, and it was pretty unusual, but in addition t9 the Rock Slide guys, who were very nice, there were about 6 other jeeps with their steps. Granted, this was not a super difficult trail, but I am on 37’s with a 3.5” lift, and I drug the rock rails a few times. Not one of the 9 or 10 jeeps on the trail had a problem with their steps. Using the Moab scale, they say the basic steps are good for up to a 5 rated trail. I have no doubt that they are. You can also buy the gear to reinforce them for bigger trails. Since things are typically interesting for me until I hit a 6 or above, I would probably spend the extra money on the reinforcement.
Summation, they are every bit as good as they claim. My guess is the people that say they won’t hold up have not seen them in action.

As stated they will not take a hit from rocks I had them...
But I go on trails rated above a 5.
