Wall thickness a little thin,mounts to the frame a plus

Yes it is but they still hold up fairly well and its hard to pass up that price.

People fabricate tons of different things for there rigs. I'm sure someone has fabricated a set of rock sliders. If you talking about taking the Smittybilt sliders and modifying them for added strength then that is definitely possible as well.
