Default roll cage - custom weld or bolt in?

I was looking to get the poison spyder bolt in sport cage for my jku and I started thinkin, how strong can a bolt in cage really be? Can someone with sound experience jump in and really talk about how dependable a cage like this can be?

What if I had this bolt in cage welded in instead?

As an alternative I could find a fabricator to custom weld a cage in. How much could something like this go for and is it really worth it?

If you are thinking of welding a bolt in cage, you should look into the synergy weld in cage. It's the closest thing to a full custom cage. There are various packages depending on how much you want to beef up the factory cage. I know Jim at rock spyder has installed one in a 2 door JK before.

Ive seen a video of a jeep with the poison spyder cage rolling down a pretty big hill & working really well. One thing you have to remember when getting a custom cage too is you could possibly end up with a salvaged title if you cut out the factory cage & modify the frame.

A better start might be a question from me, how often do you expect to roll and what kind of wheeling will it occur in?

I think the "sport" cages cover most of what a guy in a JK would put himself into.

Now if you're a bit more on the hardcore side... sure, go full custom, as no 'kit' will suffice.

I think the "stock" cages cover most of what a guy in a JK would put himself into.

And if you go buggy style then full custom.
Fixed....

That being said I'm going full custom my jeep thinks its a buggy....rather I treat it like one and realize that I need to just bit the bullet and build a F-Toy for cheap fun....

I don't plan on rolling often lol. I mostly enjoy rock crawling. I just want to be safe out there and I know how fragile the stock cage can be. I would not consider me ever getting out on "hardcore" trails but I would definitely say I would get on rock crawling trails where the stock cage just ain't good enough.

My original plan was to get the poison spyder bolt in cage. Then I considered the DIY weld in synergy cage because I'm just not understanding how a bolt in cage is going to do the job well? By all means I WANT someone to tell me it will!!! I want the cage ...but Then I said well hell why not get a custom cage then?

But I do see the point that if I did that I would have to start cutting the stock cage and possibly frame, so is that really a good idea

All in all, from a scale of 1-10 : 1 being stock friendly and 10 being full cage and 5 point harness absolutely necessary with a helmet and everything...I would say I except to eventually wheel on trails that would be rated no more than a 7-8. I would regularly wheel on a trail rated 6-7

I think you'd be fine with a sport cage...they tie stuff in adding strength and have seen em do well in road rollovers...the added protection and well designed unit is nice...

Say poly or poison spyder

Synergy weld-in.

I don't trust the stock cage for a highway roll or an offroad roll down a hill.

A Rock Hard or PSC would be better than nothing.

I have a River Raider weld-in, and wish I had done the Synergy.
