Default Rubicon Tire Upgrade

Selling off the stock BFG MT and 17 moabs for something bigger, probably the GY Duratrac, although not sure what size. I def like the idea of going to a 33 but would rather a 34 , and thinking 35" is bigger than I need even with my 4:10 and 6spd rubicon using 18" x 7.5"?? sahara rims (24 lbs). I'll am running 1.5 spidertrax.

Stock BFG MT rubi package on 17"x7.5" moab rim (24 lbs).
255/75/17 (were $195 at discounttire.com, now NLA; yet tirerack.com has them at $178)
Small and only 48 lbs per tire (I originallly was way (weigh) off on this.
10" over-all width
32.1" inflated height
Love these tires in the snow, and mud as well and on the trails. Quiet on hwy, okay in rain for an MT. Best agressive offroad tire I've driven on in my time, wish they came in larger sizes. I don't know much of the latest KM2 (feel free to comment)
My only problem is the stock BFG MT is not avail in a 33 or 34.

In comes the goodyear duratrac so many like....

Having lived and loved the stock rubi BFG MT's I am have alot of reservations going down to the AT duratrac even thou it looks more like a MT. The Dura appears to test better in the rain than the BFG MT. I would really appreciate some been there done this experience going from the BFG MT to the Dura AT. Can't help but feel like I am downgrading somewhat and never had any complaints with the BFG MT other than being too small.

Is the duratrac louder than the BFG MT?

Any confirmation on the rim width and BFG MT tire weight? (yes even thou this is a rubi I am concerned about adding weight, being that these things are slow enough as it is....)

Help/advice on tire sizes and brand greatly appreciated.

(btw, not looking to re-gear, or do much more than minimal lift, (thinking I will do a JKS adj coil kit to level out the weight of the AEV and winch install), so in general probably a 1-2 lift rear and about 2.5 up front.

33" BFG KM2's work very well with a 6speed and 4.10's. I've been running this setup for 1.5 years and very happy. I will order these tires again... great all around tire especially off-road.

I also don't want to get into re-gearing at this point. Been down that road before that's why I got the Rubi 4.10's.

As far as ride goes, I think the KM2 are quiter than the stock KM tires. The gearing issue should be better for you since you have the 6-sp and I am running the auto. I have not regeared yet, but will be soon just because I am going with 37s or 38s. Hope that helps.
That was my thought with the KM2 that they would be somewhat quieter than BFG MT just looking at the center tread pics.

I'd have to disagree. After running both tires I'd say the KM2's are louder.

Well either way the KM2 might be out, (no 33, or 34 for an 18 Rim). Now if by some change of heart I keep my 17" moab, then we'd be in business.....

why go with a 18 rim your tires are more. i like a 17 for looks and function but a 15 or 16 would be a cheaper option for tires. and i agree that the km2's are louder than the stock km's. this might be due to a wider tire and rim combo though.

In some cases a larger rim can be better. When air'd
down off road and on angle, less roll-over. and less sidewall flex, on top of the on road reason of better handling, Even plus sizeing a inch of sidewall totally changed the handling of my last jeep SJ.

Also it seems the 18 wheel weighs the same as the 17 but yeah the 18 tires weigh a bunch more.

Still considering what sorta 33-34" on an 18 would run comparable to the OEM BFG KM

No comments on the duratrac, no love for them here?

I took off the standard Rubi rims/tires and went with AEV pintlers and 35x12.5" GY MTRs. I think they are at least as quiet or possible quieter on the Hway. Also have the OME HD. The 35s with the standard tranny and 4.1s in my opinion is actually more drivable then with the 32s.

12.5" wide tires stink in the snow (relatively)!!! Keep that in mind if you live up North.

The Rubicon model was built to be lifted 2-3 inches with 35" tires. It is by far a nicer driving and riding jeep then before. Hope this helps.

I didn't say they were cheap!!! LOL!!!

I looked into On-line tire shops also but it didn't pay. With shipping and then mounting and balancing at a local shop you can end up paying $40 or more per. If you buy local you pay no shipping and usually they will include M&B and add free life time rotations. (thats what I got) It ended up being cheaper then buying it on-line.
