Default Rugged Ridge Mirror Brackets Redesigned?

-------------------------------------------
***EDIT SO THAT PEOPLE DON'T HAVE TO READ THROUGH THE WHOLE THREAD ***

The rugged ridge mirror brackets have been redesigned. However it turns out that at some point Jeep changed the mirrors! If you have the older style mirrors the new relocations brackets work great. The hardware issues on the previous version have been resolved and the installation instruction are now accurate.

If you have the newer mirrors with the smaller stalk, you will need to get inserts from either the retailer you purchased the brackets from or from the manufacturer (techsupport@omix-ada.com ).

I believe they will start including the inserts with the brackets in the future.

------------------------------------------------

I have had the rugged ridge mirror brackets on order with quadratec for a while now. They finally came in. Everything I've read on these had complained that the mirror doesn't sit all the way down in the bracket.

Well on mine the bracket is much larger than the mirror stalk (almost a tenth of an inch). This means that when you tighten the mirror to the bracket none of the load is taken by the stalk. The load is instead placed no the plastic of the mirror. But because the bracket is not as wide as the plastic on the mirror, only half the plastic takes the load. That means tightening the mirrors down to the bracket with any amount of force is going to deform the plastic.

Here are some picture explaining what I mean. I sent these pictures to the manufacturer. Hopefully I'll get a response back. I apologize about these being so large, but I wanted to make sure you could see the detail...

Mirror stalk is about 1.085"

The bracket is about 1.165"

When you put the mirror in the bracket all the load is placed on one small section of plastic and not on the mirror stalk

You can see from the manufacturer's website that it should bottom out on the mirror stalk and not the plastic.

Mine are like this as well sucks. Also they made em too short. I had to add washers between the factory screw and the RR bracket to get it to tighten at all otherwise the mirror was all lose in the bracket and just wobbled around.

I have the 1st design and the only thing I did was buy longer bolts, 8mm x 50mm and they are perfectly tight

I must have gotten the ones inspected by No. 9 or something, because mine fit just like they are supposed to and I have no issues with them

Sorry to hear others are having problems with them

When did you get yours? I think the ones that myself and Hellbound just received recently (after a long back-order wait) were possibly redesigned.

I had the very same problem. It really p-d me off, and they're now history for me. Don't understand why they don't keep a better quality check at RR...

I read your post about 15 minutes after I confirmed with Quadratec that they had then in stock. I was ready to be dissappointed with the brackets based upon your experience.

I was however, surprised to see that mine went on without a hitch, except for misthreading one of the 8mm bolts. Luckily the auto store around the corner had one for me. I was a tad annoyed that the directions did not mention the need for the angled ratchet piece to screw in at an angle that you needed for the bottom bolt when you mount the bracket to the windshield pillar....of course I could not find one in all my crap and had to get one when I got the bolt. Also, had a quicm thought to grab one of the peel and stick wide angle circle mirrors so the passenger mirror would actually be useful when the doors are on.
