Default Rugged Ridge Mirror Relocation Brackets - WTF? Need Help.

Hey guys, I'm sure this has been covered before but I couldn't find a concrete solution after 5-10 minutes of searching.

As you may know the factory bolts are too large to fit in the cover plates. I went to Home Depot with one of the cover plates and I couldn't find one bolt that fit. Everything was either too large or too small.

How have you guys been getting these on?

I had the same problem. The bolts that come with the brackets are for the filler plates. The bolts that come out of the factory mirror can be used to mount the new bracket to the windshield post.Did you check to see if your mirror will fit into the new bracket? I had to use a Dremel with a sanding wheel on the inside of the bracket to get the mirror to fit.

I actually JUST posted in another thread... I had the same problem with the bolts not fitting.

I didn't know Rugged Ridge was run out of someone's garage in their spare time.

I just checked and the other bolts that came with the kit are also too large to fit in the plates :/

And yes I did take my dremel to the mount. The mirrors look a lot better when they are flush against the mount!

What did you have to do? Could you please link me to that thread?

NVM, I figured it out...kinda.

I ended up just saying f**k it and used the bolts that came with it and 're-threaded' the brackets with force.

I dont get it the silver hex head bolts that come with the kit work in my filler plate no problem. Used the stock bolt to bolt mirror to the reloc bracket

I installed mine this past weekend. There is a revision to the directions on the quadratec site. Use the hex bolts supplied for the filler plates. My passenger side mirror fit right down into the bracket fine but the driver side did not. I used a few thick black o rings to make it look ok but I think I will try the dremel on it so it will drop down into the bracket. Had my first weekend of "no doors" cruising! The passenger mirror is pretty much worthless with the doors on unless you stick a convex blind spot mirror on it.
Nothing like no doors and no top driving!

Well now that I've modified the whole kit I really do like the look and functionality of the whole thing and am glad I bought it.

I find that I can see 90% of the passenger mirror when the doors are off and 40% when the doors are on but I'm with you on the convex blind spot mirror. With that little guy at the bottom right of the mirror I can see everything I could normally see in the passenger side mirror but its just a little smaller.

Sounds like too much of a pain in the ass to me. At least as far as brand new merchandise goes. When I buy something new, I expect it to fit, work, etc.

I put these on my Jeep about two months ago, found out that bolts were not long enough too, and swithed them with mirror bolts. Yea, when the doors are on the Passenger side is almost useless, so I just leave the mirror bracket on and attach the mirror back on the door. Mine are already rusting out too, crappy paint job!
