So I got under the jeep today to check some stuff out and regrease some fittings when I noticed these two leaks...What are your guys thoughts on what it could be and what to do? Any help would be great. I thought maybe the yoke may have worked a little loose and thats why the diff was leaking, but I dont know if retorqing will solve it. As for the leak on the passenger side...I'm not sure what it could be or why.

 

Looks like you have a pinion seal and a axel shaft seal leak. The pinion will not stop by retorqueing the nut. The shaft seal will need to be replaced on the axel. A lot of work. If it not aftermarket have the dealer do it under warrenty if you still on one.

 

Looks like a pinion gear seal in the differential. This happened to mine as well. Seems there was a bad batch of seals going out during manufacturing. If yer still under warranty they should fix it without asking any questions. If not under warranty you might still get it fixed without having to pay. When I went in the service manager seemed to know right away what the problem was and said it was a common issue.

Driveshaft is there. I guess the pic kinda makes it look funny.

As for the seals. I have it regeared so do you suggest I go back to the shop that regeard it? It was geared a year and a half ago.

 

Yeah to pay them to replace it, if they did good work. Im assuming youre not talking about free 18 months later?

 

Just thought of something else. I had my axle gusseted about 2 months ago, should they have replaced any seals or anything when they pulled the axle to make the welds? Its been a good shop just want to ask the right questions if I need to go back there.

 

May as well get the axle shaft seal done too.

 

No, but keep in mind the oil on the side could be residual in the tubes from the axles being pulled. Id suggest cleaning the area well w/brake clean & keep an eye on it, first.

 

Wonderful, how much you guys think it will cost? Do they have to pull the gears and re instal them?
