Im running 37s on my d30. I ran trails all summer long every weekend on them and they held up strong for a long time.
However, I did blow my spider gears on Liberty trail here in CO. Very tough trail that honestly took all my jeep had to get down it. Coming back up I was trying to climb up a 2.5-3' ledge and I couldn't get up it. With the wheels locked to the left I did what I shouldnt have and gassed it hard. Boom.
Now this could have all been avoided if I took a better line and didnt gas it so hard. So it was my fault.
Other than that, the d30 has held up through lots of the tougher trails here in CO and I have confidence It will hold up just fine taking it easy on the skinny pedal and choose the right lines.
I will be upgrading when I can, but for now, it will do just fine!

My jeeping mentor is a longtime trail guru, he has a modest TJ with 32" tires and a very small lift, but he makes it up the trickiest hills and through rock gardens no problem
I'm going with him Saturday in his rig, on some trails that are pretty tough in the summer and we have over a foot of snow and its been well below freezing all week.

Isnt the jk dana 30 a 30/44? Just a different pumpkin?? I will admit with gussets and sleeves, i think i will be strong enough for my use. Not a fan of the artec truss look. Especially if the guy is a shitty welder. But the purpose behind it is brilliant

Keep in mind there are way more front dana 30's out there than 44's and 60's combined. Relatively few complaint of breakage. That would suggest the odds are with you to run it and be just fine. disposable income is the only factory in this. If you have the money spend it, if you don't, don't. The sheer numbers would suggest the luck is on your side but if you are risk averted make a different choice.

I think the skinny pedal and experienced line picking are just about everything

The 44 and the 30 are pretty much the same but when you upgrade the axle shafts as you should to run bigger tires the R&P becomes the weak point and the D44 has the bigger stronger R&P so in my mind the 44 is worth having over the 30 simply because in an equally upgraded diff, the 44 will always be stronger. That is not to say that the 30 will not be plenty strong for your needs.

YA OK. 3 YRS so far on 38.5 pitbulls no problems yet. people talk b/s and have no real world experience. they just hear people say I wont do it. people that break and bend them are jumping rocks or hitting to hard trying to climb. take it slow and you will be fine. do c gussets and do truss or sleeves rausch creek pa has not damaged my d30 yet. if it does then ill upgrade<img src="https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=527676"/>

It all depends on how you drive.
If you like to throttle your way up and opstical like a lot of people your going to break something same goes for the dana 44.
If you have finesse and know how to pick your lines you will be fine.
My best advise learn to wheel with open diffs it will make you a better wheeler in the long run.

Some of you guys make it seem like jeeps can just crawl every obstacle at slow speed... Definitely not the case plenty of times you need momentum or to bump something pretty hard. That's when you'll break stuff.

As far as the JK, I do not even trust the front Dana 44 much on the stock 32" tires, although mine gets rougher treatment on the road than in the woods and has held up.
