What do you need to do differently when choosing 38" over 37".

Will 5.13 still get the job done on the trail & in the street?

yes, 5.13's will. you could go 5.38's but, i wouldn't recommend it due to how small the pinion gets on the 44.

I really want to get 5.38s. Is this a common problem? 4wheel parts says they give life time warranty on the parts. In your opinion should I go 5.13s?

depends. if you're running a small 37 and don't wheel too hard or that often, you might be okay. i know there are several people who swear by it. me, i ran 5.38's with very big and heavy 40" tires and blew up my gears in just under 2 months/10 hard runs. having said that and contrary to what some may suggest, i was well aware of the pinion size and had assumed that it might break and so, during this period of time, i made sure to be extra careful with the gas pedal and limit or prevent spinning tires altogether. 38's are bigger than 37's and at least in my opinion, asking for trouble sooner or later if you run 5.38's. if it were me, i would stick with 5.13's. they may not be the ratio i want but really, who gives a crap about lifetime warrantees when you've got a blown rear end on a trail like the dusy ershim and with 10 more very technical miles to go - that is what happend to me.

What about 5.38's in a Dana 60? Any issues with that?

Good to know! I really like the skinny pedal, so I will be going with 5.13s.

no, you will not have any issues with 5.38's in a 60 - this is what i am running now and the r&p are much larger.

I'd spend $75-100 and take the appropriate gear set to a Cryo Shop and have them treated.

Just to make sure I am understanding this correctly. For a Rubi with axles it came with I don't want to run more than 5.13 and 37's? Or can I go to 40's? Will it make that much of a difference from 37 to 40 while having 5.13?

in a dana 44, what you get with a rubicon, the pinion on a 5.38 gets to be really really small. under normal conditions, this is no big deal. if you only do light wheeling without a lot of stress being placed on your drivetrain components, no big deal. but, if you run larger tires like 37's or bigger and wheel hard and a lot like i do, the stresses placed on this really really small pinion can be enough to break it. with 5.13's, the pinoin is bigger and the chances of breaking one would be less. does this make sense.
