shock boots a must?

I found the boots in Quadratecs' spring 2009 catalog, but after some of the comments on here about holding as much in as out I'm not buying them.

They are great at keeping out road salt but that is about it!

Boots hold in all sorts of debris causing excess wear and rusting since you can't wash the piston rods along with the jeep. I don't run them.

I've always run them until now. I've tried many brands of shocks over the years and up here they look like crap after one winter anyways. The shocks themselves get all rusted and crappy looking. Any suggestions on that fix (aside from waxing them and washing them like the paint) I know they are a suspension component but they are visible too. I also know mud covers that problem but I have OCD with my Jeep, trucks, wheelers etc.

I'm doing the drilled mirror MOD on my shock boots. Keep most of the crap out yet Will allow water to drain. Problem solved! I know the jeep parts are going to rust anyway. Have you looked under your jeep lately? Rust Rust Rust I think my sisters 1992 Geo Storm had less rust.
