Default Shock install

Are aftermarket shocks in the rear supposed to be mounted shaft up or down? Are they labeled for orientation? I see some both ways. I know this such a noob question but just curious.

some go up, some go down. you will be able to tell when you are doing the install. they will have side mount holes for bolts for the bottoms and the fronts will have threaded studs on the top, the rears will have two wings coming off the sides that bolts use as "catchers" to hold it in place for the top part.

Well I got the front. The rear came with the bar pins not installed. I guess the shock should be marked

My Bilsteins came shafts up in the front and down in the rear.

Just got some new es9000s and the rear shocks were designated.

The fronts of course only mount one way. Bar pins were not installed, so if they were not labeled i would have asked the same question.
