That factory recomended pressure will change depending on 2wd, 4wd, tire rating, and towing capacity. Tbs 38 psi is way too much for a dd jeep if you want a comfortable ride. Lots of threads out there that go over this and is personal preference. It soulds like you are an aggressive driver and a higher pressure on road may be for you, but don't expect a comfortable ride.

Thanks, I have the Rubicon 2Dr with stock rims and BFG's. I am letting the tires wear down then I am gonna upgrade.... I will look into airing down....Its not that it is uncomfortable for me...it is my wife that complains...

My bud had a TJ that has Bilstein 7100 and his ride is much softer then mine is... It must be the valving in his shocks. But that is why I am looking at Fox, because we can revalve it if I want. The 5100's are what they are..... not rebuildable.

The TJ and JK ride completely different and there is really no comparison to the ride. Weight, width, and wheelbase are too different. Yes you can change the valving in the 7100 and fox shocks and you can also order custom shocks that are valved to your specification. Are you set up to rebuild shocks? Have the nitrogen tank and fill kit? Have the stack shims, know what the shims do? or are you going to send them to someone to re-valve. Rebuilding a shock can cost $65+ depending on who does it.

Again, shocks are not your problem and new ones are not going to solve it.

set up for shocks??? yes I am... I invest in a company that rebuilds shocks for offroad vehicles off all kinds... and we do have everything needed. Again, I just invest... My partner does all the work.... he can show me.

Are the springs my problem then??? is that what you are saying? the post you directed my too said that the shocks give the ride quality.

I sure am glad I hooked up with someone who knows it all.

Shocks do give you ride quality but are not the only thing you need to look at, the whole system works as a whole. Suspension geometry, coil rates, shock valving, torsion bars, and tires all affect ride quality and control of the jeep. You seem to be dead set on buying new shocks, so go out and buy some new shocks. If you really have a partner that rebuilds shocks he should be able to give you the direction you need, I am not sure why you would even ask such a question on a forum if you have that kind of resource at your disposal.

Bro, if you want to be a hard headed prick and not take peoples advise that is fine its your rig, learn from your mistakes. All I and others did was try and educate you a bit so your decision would be easy to make.

This is my last post on the subject, good luck with your build.
Respect!

I don't have the ranchos, but from what your saying and based on what I've read, if I were buying shocks right now I would buy the rancho adjustables with the deal they have going. Other than that, I'd keep it at the 2 inch mark(which is where your at), flat fenders, and drive it!

Also like they said, if you haven't already lower the pressure. I run mine at 25-28 on road.

You are buying new shocks now instead of waiting to get the correct length for the new lift? Or did those take-off coils give 3.5-4"?

As my buddy - The Dirtman has already stated, you need to map out your ultimate goal. When you say wheeling, are you referring to a rock crawler, all terrain (overland), desert rig etc etc..? I have never had a giant budget for my builds, but have done my homework and asked people of TheDirtmans status for advise on many occasions. In my previous jeep, I ran 2.5" OME HD coils and TF 9550's and the ride/off-road performance was well within capable. This is because I had the right length shocks and altered other parts to coincide with my budget build, i.e. ADJ Trac bar, HD balljoints etc.. Personally, I would never spend $1400 on shocks for a DD or anything other than a strict rock crawling setup, but thats just me. OME, Rancho, 5100's and TF 9550's are a very decent shock for a fraction of a coil over setup….
