it would be nice, but I don't see why I would want the short throw performance of a fast car...then again, the short throw is fun...

Yeah, since my JK is also my DD, it would be nice to not have to fight with it constantly. Don't get me wrong, I still love my 6spd, but I've driven old geo metros that have better shift feel, not to mention modern small cars like the mazda 3 or vw golf.

why are these guys comparing their Jeeps to compact cars
Obviously it's just my opinion but I prefer the fact that my Jeep shifts like a good old American made...well...Jeep

wow, short shifters in a jeep. i hear this and laugh to myself while thinking of the shifter on my old 86 ford f-150. it was about 2 1/2 ft long and had some kind of god-awful offset in it. i loved it! cars shift like cars, trucks like trucks, and jeeps like jeeps. want it shorter? cut it and throw an aftermarket knob on it. or go with a body lift... i dunno lol. i'm just bein a prick

I don't think I'd be interested in one.
No real need for "speed-shifts" in a Jeep.
Besides, I'm thrilled about the 6-speed in my Rubicon.
It's a splendid transmission.

SIX forward gears in a Jeep, a couple of old timers I know couldn't believe it.

Just add whatever shift knob(s) you want and be happy with it.

very nice. i think it'd look great with one of those aluminum shift boot bezels, but that's just my .02. i hate to hijack, but how did u install them with the goofy stock notched shifter? and is the t-case the same way?

to the OP, I don't think your poll is acurately describing what a short throw shifter accomplishes, it's not going to make the Jeeps transmission shift 'smoother'

The aluminum shift bezel would be an attractive upgrade for sure, and one I've planned myself.

Had to cut the notched part of the transfer case shifter rod off (hacksaw) to shorten it for the "pistol grip", then install two red inserts (the largest adapter, a tight fit on the rod, had a spare from the t-handle) one all the way in the grip and one split between the pistol grip and the bottom trim nut, with some JB Weld it's very secure.

The t-handle required some dremmel work inside so it would fit tightly on the shaft (didn't shorten it) but be unable to rotate (the shaft is wider than the shifter threaded hole), and then some JB Weld and it ain't going no where!
I thought about cutting the rod to shorten it, but I really didn't want it any shorter.

In both of these cases, with the loss of a little bit of 6-speed rod length, you could just thread the shaft and be able to easily remove the Hurst grips when needed, but that would be a bit of work, and I completed this mod in only about 15 minutes.
I'm loving the T-handle 6-speed shifter, and the Hurst Pistol Grip looks like it was made for the transfer case.

All I need now is one of those "Hurst Equipped" emblems for the back of the Rubicon.
