I strapped a medium sized shovel vertically on a C-pillar, between it and a rear corner, so it doesn't take storage space.

I mounted my Fiskars X15 ax, military Shovel, and Mossberg 500 pistol grip shotty horizontally to the inside of my tailgate. It's safe and not an eye sore. Out of sight out of mind, no theft! Oh and my 3D LED maglite is mounted there as well.

ID:	501946a eye hook drilledinto shovel handle at both ends and make cable and padlock very tight lol works well you might want to toss a bit of rubber under neath the sharp edges of shovel so it wont chafe the spare tire ! u can also use a u shaped adjustment fitting and wrench the nuts down to the specific cable length neededClick image for larger version

ID:	501942 padlock on one end , loop crimped on other end, undo the padlock and the cable will still be attached to shovel at handle end

Is run 2 quick fist clamps on the tail gate. It's a solid set up.

That's where I have mine located along with my folding shovel, maglite, and pistol grip mossberg 500.
