Default Side steps/rails

Hey there, has anyone taken stock side steps off and replaced with painted and iron with properly placed holes?

Want to get rid of steps, no money for rails. Can I make my own? Has anyone done this?

Thanks for feedback,

Have you looked at picking up some used Rubicon rails? I have seen them as low as $100, they are durable, and bolt right up. Check the classifieds on this site and Craigslist.
