I am new to this and have searched a lot of threads and haven't been able to find an answer. I have play in my steering wheel between the 11-1 oclock positions. If i have someone turn the wheel there is no play in my tie rod ends. All the play seems to come from between the steering wheel and the steering box. If I adjust the steering box will it remove play between the steering wheel and the steering box or the steering box to all the linkage?

 

Have you looked closely enough to check for lost motion between the sector shaft and the pitman arm?

If you determine the lost motion is in the steering box, adjusting the screw on the top of the box may make it a little tighter, but you shouldn't simply adjust it and hope for the best.
You need to remove the box and test it to see if it needs adjusting, and if it does, adjust it the correct amount.
I've seen quite a few steering boxes adjusted in the vehicle only to be damaged in a short time.

 

Well when the wheel is being turned all the movement is prior to the steering box. Nothing after the steering box.

I have never had to mess with a steering box before. How do you go about testing it? And is there adjustments to be made other than the screw in the top of the box?

 

The only adjustment is the screw on top.
As mentioned, make sure there is no lost motion between the sector shaft and the pitman arm.
If there is play, it could be as simple as a loose pitman arm nut on the bottom, (185 ft/lbs), or as bad as damaged splines.
