Default Is this small crack a problem?

I've been fighting the GASCAP and 0456 codes forever. Sometimes the larger leak code, and once a blockage code. Already did a new Mopar has cap. All lines look good.

Found this crack in the evap can today.

It looks innocent enough to me, but what do you think?

Throw some RTV on the crack and see if the codes go away. I would guess that crack is the culprit. You could just get a new EVAP can too. They're only $50-60 at the dealer.

x2 ^^^^ If you have some laying around or JB Weld. This is a good temp fix to see if the codes go away, new ones are cheap but 50 bucks is 50 bucks so don't waste it if its not the issue.

Be a bit careful. The evap can has a lot of powdered carbon in it and if it is leaking bad (it runs under a vacuum most of the time) it can suck the carbon back up into the system...this happened on my Subaru and I am sure all systems run pretty much the same. You may still get a code if this has happened.

So, Rocky, are you suggesting that sealing it up is a bad idea? What do I need to be careful of?

Thanks!

That makes sense. Have the new can standing by, just waiting to see if the dash lights up first (post tape job).

My jeep just threw this code two days ago. I gotta crawl under and find the crack. I hope a little RTV will be the solution because I really dont want to replace it if its barely cracked.

Crack kills! Get that fixed before more codes pop up and leads to more problems.

Just a little suggestion....that code you are getting is usually just a bad seal on the gas cap. The "gascap" code and small and large evap leak are 99% of the time due to a gas cap that is leaking vapor/not sealing well. It's a very common issue.

I had the same issue and swapped out to a new cap from autozone for $15 and no more codes.

I'd try a new cap, clear the code if you have a tuner and see if it comes back. While I understand you have that crack on you canister, I'd bet its not the problem.
