Default Smashed tail pipe

I recently smashed my tailpipe between my bumper and a big boulder. I was able pry it open some what but I'm wondering if there is any harm in cutting off about 5 inches. Any thought?

Sounds pretty risky man. I would check with the local air pollution management authorities in your area first.

Default Pipe

If your venting into the under carriage you could smell exhaust in your cabin. Carbon Monoxide sinks so I don't think that would be an issue but exhaust is not all Carbon Monoxide so you might get other fumes inside the cabin. I think you would be fine though if you ran with the top and doors off.

cut off the smashed part then go to just about any parts place and buy a turn down and clamp it on to whats left on the muffler and call it done imo

I'm running the Offroad Dominion muffler on my Jeep. Basically the muffler is moved up and the tail pipe ends right about where the input is to the OEM muffler. It is high up and about where a cut-off tailpipe as you describe would end, just on the opposite side. With well over 181K miles on my Jeep, and 100K or so of them with this exhaust, running with a wide variety of top and door configurations, I've never noticed any strange smells, and I haven't yet died from it. Not sure you'd pass a close vehicle safety inspection, but they no longer conduct them here in Oklahoma.

I'm going to give that a try. We dont have emissions testing where i
'm from so that isn't a problem. Thanks for the input.

Mark and others were speaking of the potential for fumes to enter the cab.

Virginia state safety inspections require the exhaust to go past the passenger portion of the cabin. Your state will vary.

I'd just cut it off and do a tip- be done with it. Mine is slightly ovaled but doesn't bother me and doesn't impede the performance of the vehicle.

Kalifornistan .. That is funny! I moved from CA to AZ 20 years ago. Love AZ and would never move back to the PRC. Peoples Republic of California. It is sort of like Cuba... A beautiful place, with a lot to offer, where you want to live, but F'd up over the years by a small handful of A-holes.
