It's one thing to want to make mods to ones jeep, without having anything to go on.. and we (wife and I) tend to do just this.. yet purchasing products that are supposed to work with the jeep and they don't, we don't complain.. though we do send emails and post reviews accordingly.. and it might be a good idea to get into habit of making your own alterations.. and just be creative.. Matter of fact on a different note.. we've had the Bestop bikini for one year and of course the warranty has expired.. But the cinch strap (made from a cotton poly blend) have broken is several area while exposed to the elements.. Going to restitch these straps nylon red.. best do this before the weather changes..

I agree. I think e-mails and reviews make a large impact to one's QC department. At least, that's been my experience. But, with that, you get more with honey...I find I'm able to get an acceptable resolution quicker if I'm nice on the phone or e-mail in a tone that's not angry than when I go bonkers to an operator who has no say in anything.

But, there again, that's what forums are for! To help folks out.

Hope it works out yellow. I was already prepared with a grinder when I got my SB bumper and rails and I was more than surprised that I was turning wrenches instead of turning on the grinder!

Good luck!

There isn't any indication when emailing or calling whom ever that I'm angry about their products.. but If there is an issue, I do try and relay this information over the phone or online with images.. So yes Image is everything.. Sort of like the Hi-lift jack hood mounts.. and thou we like it.. it wasn't without flaws.. Just pays to be creative and make alterations..

Oh no...Not implying you were. I'm just putting it out there for other people who may call/e-mail for reference. My wife is Puerto Rican so I have seen the carnage first hand of going off and expecting results! LOL. I just like to chat and get things resolved!

Sorry for the threadjack!

No worries on the jack. And I agree that you get better results when dealing with customer service calmly as they are the middle man and have no control of the situation. My original post was a rant to blow off steam. But being the great community that we are, people contributed helpful ideas to assist me in installing. I haven't gotten in touch with smittybilt and honestly probably won't. I'm gonna try some grinding and attempt the install again.

That's what I would do. You can first try rotating in like urmyboyblue suggested as that is what I did also. I don't think mine was off by an 1/8" but it was close to that. Once the front made contact I was able to use a dead blow hammer and get it past the corner where it was hitting and into the channel. But many people have had to grind.

Well after some grinding. A lot of grinding...they are on. Another thing I noticed was that two of the nuts were positioned so that I couldn't get a socket on em without the help of a hammer and some patience. But whatever, they're on and they look damn good so overall I'm pretty happy.
