Heading to the 4wheelparts tent sale tomorrow, and want to look at snatch blocks, tree savers and recovery straps. I have a 2 dr and was wondering if I need 30,000lb. gear or will the 20,000lb. stuff be sufficient.

 

The bigger the better. We managed to snap a 30,000 ARB Recovery Strap towing my out of a trail. I couldnt belive it happened.

Gotta remember a lot of the time you will be using your gear to help out others who might be heavier. Always good to go 30,000

Either way i think both are better than nothing!

 

The price usually isn't that much different. You also have to consider brand to. A cheap 30,000 can often brake before a good 20,000. When your stuck in the woods you will be glad you spend the extra money.

 

yep especially if you are stuck in mud...that crap adds lots of extra weight

 

Just imaging you are hanging off a rock or cliff, which would you want to rely on? I always go with 30,000 or better for my recovery equipment for the sake of Safety.

Imagine that if you tie a tree-saver with a snatch block to a tree and route a 10,000lb winch from your Jeep, through the snatch block and to an anchor point, the "weight" there will be 20,000lb at max capacity.

So, you want to go that capacity or higher. Mine are rated to 30,000. ;-)

 

Military surplus stores are a good place to find cheap, extremely heavy duty snatch blocks. 12k winch, 30k line, snatch block, and an anchor, there ain't shit out there you can't un-stick

 

The bigger the better, but then again, anything is better than nothing.....depends on ur wallet

This is truth. Buy the best you can afford. If I waited to buy the "best" of everything for my jeep I would never get to go wheeling. If you wheel in parks like I do there are guy that are happy to help or for $30 they will bring the dozer.
