Snorkel
Although a taller air intake helps, a pre-filter would do a much better job at stopping sand dust etc' from getting to the engine.
The best pre-filter I know of, is the Donaldson TopSpin Pre-cleaner (3" would be the size).

Rugged Ridge asked for Jeep owners' feedback from day one, when the snorkel was just a rough sketch of an idea.
The result is an excellent snorkel design that includes a lot of experience and expectations from Jeep owners.
The high mount is more protected from branches, as it's tucked more towards the windshield than most snorkels.
The low mount works fine, so I'd use the high intake only when a lot of dust is expected.
What would be the advantage of this one over the AEV? The AEV, to me, appears to be a much easier installation with less bends and curves in the air path. I know I'd lose view of my Rubicon sticker, but who cares? I'm going to be looking at snorkels this spring, and these two appear to be the best options.
# The AEV snorkel is specifically made to fit the AEV 'heat reduction' hood, but when their snorkel is added, it blocks the right-side air vent...
# If a stock hood is used, it has to be cut -- no way back.
The cut for the Rugged Ridge snorkel is inside and invisible. The Jeep can be easily restored to original condition.
# The Rugged Ridge snorkel has a deep "pan" which traps dust, sand or water (and allows draining if needed).
This trap is very good to have, especially if no pre-filter is used.
# Located inside, the horizontal part of Rugged Ridge snorkel is not vulnerable like the AEV is.
# The Rugged Ridge snorkel is modular and allows using either the low or high intake.

One major advantage is that the rugged ridge doesn't require you cut into your hood or fender. It offers two options:high and a low intake tube. AEV is more expensive. I love the looks of the rugged ridge but I just bought some duallys and hate the fact that it would require removing them
The installation photos I saw did require some cutting, although it wasn't visible on the exterior. Upon closer look, I'm not sure the AEV would work with my windshield mount for my LED light bar. I think the RR would work just fine with that, from what I can tell.
The price diff isn't too bad at Northridge. $30 bucks. They've got 15% off today, which takes both of them down nicely. The RR comes in just at $300, before shipping. That is tempting....
Edit....Now showing 10%. I swore it said 15%. I think they have free shipping, though.

I made my own door less mirror brackets for use with Harley Davidson mirrors. No issues there either.
I really had to search for awhile to find these light brackets. They are not very popular or advertised.
Works great for me.
